County Extension Office & Vegetable Gardening

Wednesday, April 19, 2023

Welcome back to my blog.

I recently learned about county extension offices. County extension offices are in almost every county in the United States. They offer unbiased, research-based information for your location on agriculture & natural resources, 4-H youth development, and family & consumer services.

While checking the site out, I was delighted to see that there was an upcoming event on vegetable gardening. On the event day, I made my first-ever visit to the extension office. The attendees were a diverse group of ages and gardening experience. The instructor shared so much information and answered everyone's questions.

Since I considered myself in the research phase, I intended to wait to start something this year. The encouragement from the instructor in answering my questions helped boost my confidence (remember, done is better than perfect). I think I can start container gardening for peppers and cherry tomatoes. I can lacto-ferment those as hot sauce and have tomatoes for fall salads.

Here are some pictures from the presentation:

Note: I will share a post in the future on my success with lacto-fermentation.
